Welcome to the (NYS) Network of Yemeni Scholars

NYS, standing for "Network of Yemeni Scholars," is an attempt to reach out the English-speaking Yemeni scholars and create an electronic community for them. The meaning of the word "scholar" is broad enough to include many ranks of academia; ranging from full professors, to graduate students, and ending up with Bachelor degree holders.

This network is not limited to Yemeni nationals. Anyone interested in Yemeni studies and academia is welcome to join.

The project has been inspired by what I have experienced in the United States, as electronic networking is deemed primary and essential to create any intellectual community in the twenty first century.

The NYS project features five main sections:

(1) Scholars Profiles: here scholars set up their own profiles detailing their interests, and affiliations; they also display their contact information for others interested in following up with them. If your profile is set up, you will have the opportunity to become a member of the NYS.

(2) Forum: an electronic platform that aims at creating a space for all English-speaking Yemeni scholars to connect with each other at several academic levels, and to enhance their learning experiences. In this listserv & Forum, a person will be able to raise a question related to academia, send latest news about education, keep others informed about new scholarships and funding opportunities, Announce new conferences, recommend journals for publications, invte others to attend various events, call for participation in cultural festivals, inform the listserv members of new job vacancies, and much more daily academic-related activities.

(3) Newsletter: this is a strictly moderated periodical newsletter . Subscription to the newsletter is free of charge to all NYS members.

(4) News: learn more about what others in NYS are doing!

(5) Resources: an increasing list of Yemeni educational institutions, media outlets, organizations, associations, government units, and other things to learn about Yemen; the list also includes "scholarships and fellowships" information for Yemeni students seeking international education.

Although NYS is a newborn project, it is growing up fast both in terms of the networking services provided to the scholars and in the number of its members. So far, there are no restrictions to become a member other than being or having been involved in the academic sphere and being able to communicate in English.

NYS is friendly to browse and easy to navigate. However, some areas may require registration. Feel free to tour NYS and I will be pleased to receive your feedback at the end.
